Parents recharge batteries

Parents of children with cancer embrace life

See these amazing people, here in these pictures? See their smiles? Any smile like this, on the face of a father or mother of a child with cancer is exciting in itself. We counted so many smiles like these during our parents' respite week in England last June.

At Zichron Menachem, we know what it is like to be the parents of a sick child. We understand your worries, the fear, and the unbearable pain watching your child suffer. The total breakdown of routine, work, family, and more.

The holiday camp in England was an opportunity to take 40 parents away from the pain that they experience on a daily basis.

Rivka's story

""I returned feeling an inner energy, peace and strength."

In addition to a rich program of trips and fun, our parents' respite week has a double therapeutic effect. Parents learn from others in a similar situation and recharge their batteries so they can return refreshed to deal with the challenges ahead.

It starts with Chaim and Miri Erenthal, who are full of energy and strength. Every morning, everyone on the trip were asked to share something positive that happened to them. This focus on the positive helps these parents connect to each other and connect to life itself.

The entire journey brings these parents together with unbelievable intensity. Each time, we are amazed to see how any differences between them are forgotten, and their experiences bind them. The deep connections they form help to heal each and every participant.

2. How do we do that?

What did we do?

The local Jewish community open hearts

What did we not do! Shopping, shows, culinary treats, and more. The mothers and fathers who came, some nervously, were able to truly relax so they could continue with the difficult road that lay ahead when they returned.

The local Jewish community also opened their homes with open hearts. The parents were entertained and pampered.

There is nothing like seeing a new the light in parents' eyes, to hear them laugh, talk and enjoy themselves, to feel their joy, strength and life. And to know that we have been privileged to be here with them and for them and to illuminate the way for them.
