Children - who are currently battling cancer - and
their siblings and parents, were joined by Zichron Menachem’s dedicated
volunteers and “ZM” friends and supporters - both from Israel
and overseas - at this lively Purim celebration.
Our wonderful “Sherut Leumi” volunteers devoted much time
and effort in preparing this event. The “Sherut Leumi” girls
(seen in the photo here in “Minnie Mouse” costumes) prepared
a variety of stands for the carnival, where the children could take
aim at different targets and win different prizes. We made sure - of
course - that each child won many presents, but this really wasn’t
much of a problem because the children all showed that they had very
good aim!
Many of the prizes which the children took home have been donated to
Zichron Menachem by our friends and supporters throughout Israel and
around the world. Children and parents held dolls, games, backpacks,
toys and cuddly teddy-bears (just to name some of the selection). Spirits
were high, all around!
The Purim carnival brings together “Zichron Menachem children”
from all over Israel. Many of the children are friends with each other
already from previous “ZM” Adventure Camps which we have
run in Israel and abroad. The carnival was therefore a reunion of friends
– all of whom are children struggling to overcome cancer –
which gave this event an “added value” of happiness and
rejoicing.
When all the children and families had finished having fun at the carnival
booths, everyone was invited to a concert hall to enjoy the next part
of the program – an entertainment show.
The show’s “M.C.” was the popular and talented master-of-ceremonies,
Menachem Toker, who reminded everyone present that this is the 15th
year in a row that Zichron Menachem has hosted this special event!
The first performer on stage was Israeli “illusionist”
artist, Chezi Din. The children in the audience sat glued to their seats
as Chezi performed many intriguing and magical tricks. Jerusalem’s
Mayor, Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky, greeted the children and their parents
with blessings and wishes for their happiness and good health. The “Shira
Hadasha” band played popular music and songs which had everyone
singing and applauding in unison. In between the various entertainment
acts, everyone was invited to enjoy a festive banquet together.
The evening’s roster of cheering events was capped by a young
singer who’s become a “rising star” in the Israeli
entertainment world. Yehuda Sa’ado - the winner of a recent “A
Star is Born” competition - made his appearance and shared his
talents with one and all.
The joyful Hebrew month of “Adar” may have come to a close,
but at Zichron Menachem this immense spirit of happiness will continue
on, long into the future!
