You may call it “Saturday night NON-fever”
because at these parties - nobody feels sick or ailing!
The Hebrew month of “Adar” - known for its festivity due
to the Purim holiday – added its spirit to a recent “ZM”
Saturday night party. Zichron Menachem volunteers wearing silly hats
and funny masks helped to create a joyful atmosphere inside the hospital
ward. “Klezmer” music invaded the ward, while our young
male volunteers danced and jumped with joy. Slowly but surely, the young
cancer patients and family members who were keeping them company in
the hospital, left the confines of their rooms and joined the merry-makers.
Children made requests for their favorite songs and were given the
microphone so they could join in song with the “klezmer”
musicians.
Parents had difficulty hiding their emotions when one of the young cancer patients
sang a song whose prayerful words are:
“Hear, oh Lord of Israel, You who have given me everything,
You who have given me my life,
You who have given me everything I have ….”
The party closed with a performance of magic tricks done by one of
our wonderful and talented young volunteers.
In a ward that is populated with seriously ill children, Zichron Menachem
always tries its best to make everyone forget that they are sick, and
to help these young patients get back on the path to recovery and overcome
their disease.
