This was ZM’s 46th Adventure Camp since 1990.
The ZM camp stayed at the “Magic Palace” hotel, part of the
“Patel” hotel chain in Eilat. Campers flew to and from Eilat
on “ISRAIR”.
During the 5 days of the winter camp, the children enjoyed many attractions
which help them to forget their pain and fears. A crew of 3 physicians,
5 nurses, 1 social worker, 56 camp counselors and a technical team numbering
about 20 people, accompanied the ill children on their fun-filled trip.
A specially-equipped room in the hotel functioned as a blood products
laboratory, treatment area and pharmacy which met the needs of children
who are in the midst of their struggle against cancer.
This camp gives the children an opportunity to meet and make new friends
in a peer group environment, and where they exchange reciprocal strength.
Campers visited Eilat’s Underwater Observatory, the “Oceanarium,”
an IMAX movie, the Dolphins Reef, and an I.D.F. Tank Corps training school
and base.
The ZM kids also enjoyed sea-parachutes, “typhoon-style”
racing boats and “jet-ski” motorboats. Every evening the
children participated in the festive lighting of Chanukah candles, combined
with enthusiastic dancing and singing. The kids took part in a “kariokee”
party, and traveled to “Wadi Shlomo” south of Eilat to enjoy
a bonfire, folk dancing and sitting in a circle while beating middle-eastern
style “darbuka” drums.
Zichron Menachem owes much gratitude to the expert medical crew who
traveled with the cancer-stricken children. Thanks to the medical crew
and ZM’s mobile hospital unit, none of the children had to be
hospitalized or undergo medical checkups in a hospital during the 5-day
camp. Campers were able to benefit from completely uninterrupted fun
and excitement.
After the children returned home, their parents expressed supreme gratitude
for the non-stop days of fun and relaxation which the campers enjoyed
in Eilat. Parents tell us that the smiles on the children’s faces
are still in place - which for many of the children is a completely
new “look.” This appearance results from the combined powers
of inner happiness and genuine well-being.
