This pleasant social event gave the parents a special opportunity to share their experiences and to give and receive mutual support. The relaxed atmosphere, combined with a delicious meal, did much good for these parents. Several couples who are new to the parents support group were able to discover first-hand how other parents are able and willing to reach out towards them. The support groups create a social framework where parents can give assistance to others who are in a similar situation. The parents help each other to cope and strive with the many challenges of parenting a child who has been diagnosed with cancer.
