In August 2005, one hundred and twenty cancer-stricken
Israeli children took part in a unique summer camp.
The children, most of who are at the height of active chemotherapy and
radiotherapy treatments for their cancer, flew to Holland and France for
10 days of fun and enjoyment. These young cancer patients visited tourist
sites, participated in challenging activities, had thrills at adventure
parks, and were hosted by various groups of Zichron Menachem friends and
supporters.
The cancer-stricken children were accompanied by a crew of doctors and
nurses: Professor Reuven Or, Dr. Yoni Yishayahu, Yael Malachi, Elana Refael
and Shlomit Wasserzug. This dedicated medical staff took this enormous
responsibility upon themselves as volunteers -- working around the clock
with total dedication. The fact that professionals like these are willing
to join the ZM adventure camps – and as volunteers, too –
makes it possible for these camps to be organized and run. During the
course of the camp, while the children are participating in countless
fun events, the medical staff is at hand to administer any treatment that
a child may need, without interrupting the usual course of his or her
treatment schedule. At the end of 10 days overseas of non-stop fun and
activity, the children return home filled with unforgettable experiences,
memories and impressions.
This adventure camp was organized by Zichron Menachem, a non-profit organization
which dedicates itself to the well-being of cancer-stricken children and
their families, both in Hadassah Hospital, and throughout Israel.
