Retreat for Parents Print E-mail
נופש הוריםנופש הוריםנופש הורים

Except for the patient himself, no one suffers as much as the parents. There is nothing more agonizing than watching your child writhe in pain during treatments, witnessing the tears that roll down her face as she loses her hair, seeing your child lose more and more weight until he is little more than a skeleton… The parents are the ones who devotedly sit at their child’s bedside night after night, who wipe away his tears while fighting their own, who extend comfort and consolation when they themselves feel so despairing, and broadcast faith and optimism to the child and his siblings when the world seems so dark and forbidding, with no rays of hope.

Parents must remain strong for themselves, their children, the world and, most importantly, for their sick child. They must continue living life, working and running a household. And to do all this, the parents need a break too!

Aside from classic support which is dispensed via one-on-one sessions and open support groups, Zichron Menachem also sponsors short getaways for parents of children with cancer. These retreats, while brief, are vital to their emotional health and ability to continue fighting.

The underlying motive of parent getaways is strengthening the marital bond and granting parents the professional emotional support that they need to cope with their challenges. Moreover, Zichron Menachem also ensures that there is someone at home attending to all household needs—from caring for the sick child to sending the little ones off to school. This allows parents to leave it all behind with comfort, peace of mind, and relaxation!

Couples are treated to an organized weekend retreat or short trip abroad. Zichron Menachem may also endow special gifts to families: An evening in restaurant, theater, or a 1-night hotel stay, in accordance with the needs and culture of the family.
